Equitable Access to Education for all Canadians At this time, in some provinces across Canada, a student who is diagnosed with ADHD would not quailfy to be deemed a student with a disability, unless they have additional disorders that would qualify them for this status. In these provinces it is this status that gives students the right to receive accommodations throughout their educational lives and declares that an individual or special education plan is a "must". CADDAC has developed this policy paper to highlight this issue and to document the need for more educator education on ADHD leading to a greater understanding of the academic risks that ADHD can cause. This paper was sent to all Education Ministries across Canada in the spring of 2010. To view and download a pdf of the policy paper please click here. |
